Class Ending October 16, 2012
I enjoyed this class so much; you guys were so conversational and full of great questions! I'll be thinking of you all as you continue to prepare for your births. I love that two of your due dates are on holidays; I'll be able to remember them easier that way. Best wishes to all...can't wait to see those pictures up on the baby board downstairs!

Class Picture from August 2012
Your class picture, as promised...better late than never, right? Look at all those cute bellies! We're missing a few from this shot, as some had to leave before we had a chance to take the picture. Wishing you all the best, and praying for a blessed birth experience for all of you.

Waiting for Good News
Ahhhhh....! Got a message this morning from one of my former class members...asking for prayer as she labors. She's already been in my prayers often (as are all my class members) but WOW is she in my thoughts and prayers today! I never would've guessed how attached I'd become to these precious families as they prepare to become parents. I never would've guessed how I long to somehow be present at every one of these births, creating peaceful environments and encouraging these women along.
In her message, my friend asked for prayers for peace, as she's really nervous about labor and delivery. She says she's forgotten everything she learned. My response to her?
I've already been lifting you before the Throne...not only in past weeks but also this morning. You have EVERYTHING you need to bring this baby into the world! Even if you cannot remember a thing from class--that's OK! Even if you never took class, God has already given you EVERYTHING you need. Your body KNOWS how to do this. Your job is to relax with every contraction, knowing that your body is doing what God has designed it to do. He is perfect in His design!! Take just one contraction at a time. Just one. Let your body relax and open. Each contraction brings you closer to holding your baby. YOU CAN DO THIS. You're doing God's work, and He has equipped you for it. When you feel you can't do it anymore, know that you're almost done...and you'll be amazed and rejoice at what God has helped you to do with the support of your husband. Rely on our God! Love and hugs to you. You've got what it takes!

The fact is, she's got what it takes. God, in His mighty power and perfection has created and designed her body to bring forth life. The great challenge lies in truly knowing and accepting this fact, and allowing the body to do what it was made to do.

New Mamas!
Out and about town today on errands, I ran into three of my former class members. One was looking still very round and lovely (although she said she felt waaaaaayyyy toooooo HOT today...haha!) The other was a couple, looking charming as could be, and proudly holding their new little bundle of boy. Mama said labor and delivery went well...and I'm thanking God for that answered prayer. :)
I love that the Valley is small-town enough to run into acquaintances. I'm also so very glad that I saw these sweet faces today, as I'm going through withdrawal from not teaching classes this month!

My 3rd Labor & Delivery Class
Tonight marked the last night of my 3rd round of Labor & Delivery class. What a fun group! I wish I would have taken class pictures of my last two groups; hopefully I'll remember my camera from here on out.
Great working with you all. You've got what it takes! Have a blessed birth.

A New Venture!
For the past six or seven years, I've dreamed of working in some capacity to encourage the profession of midwifery. Though I have not felt the calling to become an actual midwife, I've desired to support this profession which has impacted my family and I so positively.
My dreaming led to researching, and five or so years ago, I looked into some on-line classes for Childbirth Education. The classes were quite expensive, and not conducive to the time and season I found myself in at the time. As I strive to do with everything in my life, I spoke with my Master about this in prayer, and left it in His hands.
More years went by, and after every new birth experience, my dream continued to blossom into a passion. That is why, when I read about certification classes becoming available locally, it fairly took my breath away! I realize that sounds dramatic, but that is how I felt. Somehow I knew this was the timing. Such a nuisance, the money was still an issue, even though the classes were considerably less expensive than the on-line programs I'd researched previously. The financial aspect was not problematic because we are particularly poor; in fact we are not. It was problematic, however, because of our financial goals and necessity to stay-the-course at this period in time. Once again, I lifted it up to the Master, asking Him to provide my way if this really was the right timing. Simply put, He said "yes," and provided the tuition along with all the other details necessary for me to attend the training.
Other details included childcare for my toddler and 6-year-old, and logistics for my 8-year-old and 11-year-old to attend a previously scheduled, all-day, hour-away field trip. As I type this out, it sounds neat and orderly and not a big deal. I assure you it was nothing of the sort (!) but somehow, it all worked out. Last fall, I attended the whirlwind, three days of training classes with my newborn, and loved every minute of it! I completed the coursework, teaching demonstration, and written exam. I pored over midwifery and childbirth books and wrote the required reviews. I sent in my requirements, and am currently waiting for my certificate. I'm on my way...a new venture!
Exciting, and that is not all! I've had the privilege of being hired on to teach at the very place my love of birth, babies, motherhood, and midwifery was born. I have the amazing blessing to nurture where I myself have been nurtured.
